Classic Hotels were founded in 1950 by the Post Office Fellowship of Remembrance as a living memory to GPO employees who lost their lives in the two World Wars. GPO staff association members could book low-cost holidays and were also entitled to special convalescence should the need arise, to aid recovery from illness, accidents or war time injuries. |

Now wholly independent of the Post Office, POFR has evolved into a hotel chain which is open to the general public but offers extra benefits and discounts for its membership of 20,000. POFR trades as Classic Hotels and operates three hotels in the UK: Dumbleton Hall, Cotswolds; Friars Carse, Dumfries and the Waterhead Hotel, Coniston Water. It also trades as Legacy for its membership division. |
